The Meet A Family Experience: A Day in the Cotswolds

Sunday September 14, 2014
The Cotswolds, England:Lower Slaughter, Bourton on the Water, Broadway, Chipping Campden, Moreton in the Marsh

The Meet-A-Family Experience as described on Harlaxton's website, is quite literally a "taste of British Family Life." My family consists of Steve, Val, and George Twigg. (Hopefully they don't mind being featured in my blog.) I met George the day before he left for the start of this term at Exeter, so he isn't able to join in our family experiences. But it's always fun with Steve and Val! They have lovingly opened their home to me numerous times and always do their best to make me feel loved and welcome. They are the perfect meet a family match for me, I may be biased, but I think I got the best family out there. ;)

Steve have me over at their house about once a week, which always consists of a delicious meal prepared by Steve. So far we have also gone on one day trip together, and hope for another trip sometime soon!

The problem with getting behind on blog posts is that you cannot do your visits justice! I cannot remember all the details from the day at the Cotswolds with them, but I will do my best! :)

We started out our trip early Sunday morning at 8 am. Steve and Val warned me that I would take a lot of pictures, and I definitely proved them right!

The houses were so quaint and adorable at each stop during the trip. Many of the homes we saw were hundred of years old, which is a sharp contrast to the homes I am used to seeing in America. The gardens at each home were equally, if not more beautiful than the homes themselves. I loved seeing the cute little entryways into the homes; each house had its own personality.

Bourton on the Water

For lunch we stopped next to the water for a picnic prepared by Steve. It was fun watching all the little kids jumping in the water. It was a warm day but I don't know how they weren't freezing! It's no where warm enough for me to even think about getting in the water. We didn't stop for too long before we continued on to other sites, we were able to see a lot of fun places in one day!

Chipping Camden

The final thing we did was have a traditional Sunday Meal at an Indian restaurant. It was my first experience eating Indian cuisine and I really liked it. The dishes were all very flavorful and very different from anything I had ever tasted. The owner was very helpful and kept checking to see how we liked the food since we told him it was my first time eating Indian food. He seemed very pleased that I liked it. I had a great time with Steve and Val visiting the beautiful English countryside. I can't wait until our next adventure!
